The Nightschool is a two-year course equipping you with ‘Foundations in Christian Theology’. This course runs from September to July over 20 Monday evening sessions. It follows the academic calendar with breaks for Half Terms, Christmas and Easter.
What does a session look like?
Each session begins at 7:10pm with a time of prayer or worship and finishes at 9:30pm. The sessions are structured around a mix of teaching, Q&A, small group discussion and practising the various theological and hermeneutical tools you will learn.
Is there any homework or assessments?
Throughout the month students participate in an online discussion forum, where you can continue to process the content you’re learning and hear from other students.
There are assignments set for each session, including learning a glossary of theological vocabulary, writing a brief theological reflection, and working with the core biblical texts we’re studying. While these assignments are technically optional, they help to solidify learning and enable to students to work through what they believe about various theological topics.
The dates for the 2020-21 Nightschool dates are
There is still so much uncertainty around the impact of Covid-19 and what the lockdown regulations will be moving forward. In light of this we want to give our students clarity about how we will proceed with this course. The 2020-2021 course will be delivered via live-streamed teaching using Zoom. This platform allows us to continue to deliver high quality theological education in a way that is accessible and affordable. You will hear from the same teachers, you will get to discuss with other students, ask questions and form friendships. You will also have the opportunity to meet with tutors, via Zoom, for tutorial time to discuss and process what you are learning. This means the course is accessible to anyone who can commit to participating in these live-streamed Zoom sessions. Being at every session is a priority for our students as this is the best way to engage with the course. However, if you cannot make a session, they are all recorded so that you can catch up.
